In fact, the opponents are not that far apart in level. They are in different divisions, but Portsmouth are at the bottom of the Championship table, while Wycombe are second in League One. This means that they could potentially swap places next season. Moreover, the "Wanderers" are only two points behind Birmingham. The total valuation of the leader is 47 million euros, while Wycombe’s squad is worth only 7 million, placing them seventh from the bottom.

Pompey’s squad is also cheaper than Birmingham’s, but they are fighting hard to stay in the Championship. John Mousinho's team is currently in the precarious 21st position, but they lead by virtue of having scored more goals. However, they do have two games in hand. The match will not be played in Hampshire, so they need to approach the upcoming game more carefully: only one win in 13 matches and a goal difference of -17.

There will be no significant advantage for either side. Wycombe’s home advantage is offset by the experience gained by Portsmouth at a higher level. When these clubs played in the same division last season, both matches went to Pompey — 2:1 at home and 3:1 away. Portsmouth is unlikely to lose in regular time.
