Laval and Rennes have not played an official match this century, although they have met in three friendlies since 2015. Surprisingly, the Ligue 1 side have won only one of them — the underdogs have put up a fight each time.
Laval
Laval's friendly against Rennes will be hugely important ahead of the resumption of their campaign. Laval have won only one of their opening seven Ligue 2 matches, and a 1:1 draw with Sochaux left them bottom of the table. They make too many defensive errors — their 14 goals conceded is the second-worst record in the league.
Rennes
Rennes suffered their first setback of the campaign the week before last, losing 0:4 away to an angry Lyon. Before that, they had won three of four matches, scoring six goals in total. Rennes have strong goalscorers, with Senegalese striker Boulaye Dia leading the line after returning to Ligue 1 following several seasons in Spain and Italy.
Laval vs Rennes Prediction
The last friendly between Laval and Rennes ended in a 2:1 win for the Ligue 1 side — that match took place two years ago. We expect Rennes to have more opportunities in attack — they cannot afford to lose form during the break.
