Why France Are Favourites for the Match
France's edge in the market is small, but it is there. We would highlight four main reasons.
16 goals in normal time is the best attacking return among the semi-finalists, and no opponent has managed to contain France's quick wide players.
Mbappe is on fire: eight goals at the World Cup and a brilliant performance in the quarter-final, with a goal and an assist. France's leader is dragging the team forward.
France played their quarter-final a day earlier than Spain and have had an extra day to recover.
Manu Kone has deputised confidently for Tchouameni, while Desire Doue started against Morocco in place of Bradley Barcola and gave the team more movement between the lines.
Form and Line-up France
France came through Group I with authority: 3:1 against Senegal, 3:0 against Iraq and 4:1 against Norway. In the knockout stage, the team have not conceded once: Sweden were beaten in the Round of 32 (3:0), Paraguay in the Round of 16 (1:0) and Morocco in the quarter-finals (2:0). In the last match, their opponents had their first shot on target only late on.
The attacking quartet run the game. Dembele and Doue stretch defences down the flanks, Olise looks for passes between the lines and Mbappe finishes. Doue had displaced Barcola from the starting XI by the quarter-final. The main question concerns the holding midfield area: Kone and Rabiot are reliable without the ball, but they do not move it forward as quickly as Tchouameni.
France have had an extra day of rest, but not everything is perfect. Tchouameni has missed two matches, while Mbappe finished the quarter-final with a minor ankle problem. The captain said after the game that he felt fine, so his participation is barely in doubt.
Key numbers:
France have scored 16 goals in 6 matches at the tournament.
Mbappe and Dembele have produced 13 goals between them.
France have won all 6 matches at the 2026 World Cup.
Probable France line-up (4-2-3-1): Mike Maignan - Jules Kounde, Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba, Lucas Digne - Manu Kone, Adrien Rabiot - Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise, Desire Doue - Kylian Mbappe.
Absentees / Doubts: Aurelien Tchouameni - thigh injury, missed the last two matches; his readiness for the semi-final has not been confirmed. Kylian Mbappe took a minor knock to his ankle but said he feels fine.
Form and Line-up Spain
Spain won Group H with seven points, although they began with a goalless draw against Cape Verde despite having 27 shots. They then beat Saudi Arabia (4:0), Uruguay (1:0), Austria in the Round of 32 (3:0), Portugal in the Round of 16 (1:0) and Belgium in the quarter-finals (2:1). Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring, and Mikel Merino scored the winner in the 88th minute.
Luis de la Fuente's game has not changed since the victorious Euros: possession, short passing combinations and quick pressing after losing the ball. Lamine Yamal is increasingly taking responsibility, Mikel Oyarzabal has become the main finisher, and Alex Baena has filled the left flank after Nico Williams' injury. In the quarter-final, Fabian Ruiz started in midfield alongside Rodri instead of Pedri and scored.
Spain have had one day less to recover and played a tougher quarter-final. Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino have not played since picking up injuries in the match against Uruguay, so there are fewer options on the flanks. At the same time, the first-choice midfielders and defenders came through the Belgium match without any new injuries.
Key numbers:
Spain's clean-sheet run at World Cups reached a record 649 minutes and ended only in the quarter-final against Belgium.
At this World Cup, 6 different players have scored for Spain, while another goal was put into the net by an opponent.
Spain have won 5 matches in a row since drawing in the opening round.
In their last 2 matches, Spain have scored the winning goal after the 85th minute.
Probable Spain line-up (4-2-3-1): Unai Simon - Pedro Porro, Pau Cubarsi, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Cucurella - Rodri, Fabian Ruiz - Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Alex Baena - Mikel Oyarzabal.
Absentees / Doubts: Nico Williams, Yeremy Pino - have not played since the match against Uruguay, and their participation in the semi-final has not been confirmed.
Team Chances
Let us convert the average odds into probabilities and remove the built-in margin, around 4.7%:
Outcome | Average odds | Average odds without margin | Probability without margin |
France to win | 2.35 | 2.46 | ~41% |
Draw | 3.26 | 3.41 | ~29% |
Spain to win | 3.18 | 3.33 | ~30% |
The 1X2 market barely separates the teams: France are at around 41%, Spain around 30%, with another 29% on the draw. Odds of 2.20 give Spain about a 45% chance of reaching the final before margin is taken into account. In such an even match, qualification makes more sense than a straight win, because a draw after 90 minutes does not settle that bet.
Alternative Bets
Spain Draw No Bet (0) - around 2.20: unlike a qualification bet, only the result in normal time matters here. A win after 90 minutes pays out, a draw means a stake refund. Extra time and a penalty shootout have no effect on settlement.
France under 1.5 goals - 1.64: given the reliability of Spain's defence, France are likely to be limited to one goal, with a second having to be squeezed out of very rare chances.
Under 2.5 goals - around 1.88: a bet on a restrained start and Spain controlling the game through possession; in matches like this, the first mistake is almost guaranteed to be decisive.
Total Goals Prediction
It is no coincidence that the goals line has settled in the middle. Four of France's six matches at the tournament have finished with at least three goals, as have three of Spain's. But in the knockout stage, both sides have been more reliable at the back. The semi-final will add caution: the cost of an error rises, the tempo at the start is almost certain to drop, and Spain know how to take time out of a game with possession. Under 2.5 goals at 1.90 is more logical for this scenario, although an early goal could sharply open the game up.
Line | Under | Over |
2 | 2.90 | 1.42 |
2.5 | 1.90 | 1.90 |
3 | 1.53 | 2.50 |
Handicap Prediction
Spain Draw No Bet (0) at 2.25 is an option for those focused solely on the normal-time result: if it is a draw, the stake is refunded; if Spain win, it pays out at attractive odds. Unlike a bet on Spain to qualify, this option does not include extra time or penalties. France Draw No Bet (0) at 1.65 may appeal to those backing the recovery advantage, with an extra day of rest, and Mbappe's individual class.
France | Handicap | Spain |
1.65 | (0) | 2.25 |
1.16/3.80 | (+1/-1) | 1.27/5.20 |
1.13/4.70 | (+1.5/-1.5) | 1.19/6.00 |
Both Teams to Score Prediction
Yes is priced at 1.72 and No at 2.10, and that imbalance can be challenged. The attacking names point towards goals at both ends, but France have not conceded in the knockout stage, while Spain allowed an opponent to score only in the quarter-final. No at 2.10 is the riskier but more interesting option for those expecting one side to win without both teams scoring.

1X at 1.35 is mainly suitable for accumulators. X2 at 1.61 is more interesting: Spain have not lost a single match at the tournament and have won their last two head-to-head meetings with France in normal time.
Team Total Prediction
Both national teams have been given a 1.5-goal line, and in both cases the odds on the under are noticeably lower. The bookmakers expect a maximum of two or three goals, which matches the scenario of a tight semi-final.
France Team Total
Under | Team total | Over |
4.10 | 0.5 | 1.25 |
2.70 | 1 | 1.47 |
1.65 | 1.5 | 2.25 |
France under 1.5 team goals at 1.65 supports the main-bet scenario: it is hard to deny Les Bleus one goal, but Spain have allowed opponents to score only once across the entire tournament.
Spain Team Total
Under | Team total | Over |
3.15 | 0.5 | 1.35 |
2.10 | 1 | 1.73 |
1.50 | 1.5 | 2.60 |
The line is even more cautious for Spain. De la Fuente's side have scored more than two goals only against Saudi Arabia and Austria.
Correct Score Prediction
The base scenario is a 1:1 draw in normal time, with the outcome decided in extra time or a penalty shootout: at this stage, both teams' defensive lines look more reliable than their attacks. The fallback option is a narrow 1:0 Spain win thanks to a late goal, following the pattern of the matches against Portugal and Belgium.
An alternative storyline: if France open the scoring and give up the initiative, a Spain comeback like at Euro 2024 is possible, with a final 2:1 in the Spaniards' favour.
