Sports selection — bad

We calculated the margin for Paddy Power by analyzing the odds they offer. We further ranked them in one of the following three categories:

From 1% to 5%: Low

From 5.01% to 7%: Normal

From 7.01% to 10%: High

Football

We got our results by taking into account the odds for final result outcomes measured in line with the over / under for different football leagues. Getting the average results using this method, we were able to obtain the margins for each league and the overall betting margin for the bookmaker.

Paddy Power has an overall average margin of 7.82% for football and falls in the high margin category. Taking Spanish La Liga and La Liga 2 into account, the margin is at 7.77%. With the Premier League and the Championship, the margin is at 7.57%. For Serie A, Portuguese Primeira Liga and Bundesliga, the margin increased to 8.11%.

Betting options — good

Paddy Power covers a total of 33 different sports, which is above average.

Football

As you would expect from such a major brand Paddy Power offer an abundance of markets for you to bet on for every game and every sport. Its strongest area is, like most UK bookmakers, football and you are literally spoilt for choice here. From the correct scores and first goal scorer markets to win cash and half time markets, Paddy Power has the lot.

Others

All sports are well represented at Paddy Power and you can bet on a very large number of variables both before the event starts and also “In Play”. For example, Cricket bets are taken on which batsmen will score the most overall as well as proposition bets on the man at the crease, will he get to 50, or 100, etc, etc. Tennis and Golf are similarly well treated with a lot more than standard match results to chose from.

Live — normal

The live betting at Paddy Power is pretty decent, the merger with Betfair possibly helping there. You can bet “in play” on most major Cricket, Golf, Darts, Tennis Football, Ice Hockey, Formula 1, and Rugby games.

The only thing lacking is “in play” bets on Horse Racing, which is something some other firms do provide. The odds and markets on the sports they do feature though are incredibly competitive and the amount of form and game data available is impressive too. Live streaming is available for most sports, but coverage is not as great as at some of their rivals.

Bonuses

About the bookmaker

“Paddy Power” was established in the late 1980s and has grown to become Ireland’s biggest and most popular bookmaker. The company began after the merger of three Irish bookmakers, who decided to combine the 40 betting shops they operated to combine costs and grow at an exponential rate. They managed it and now operate over 350 betting shops across the UK and Ireland.

They also became the third-largest online bookmaker and the sixth-largest online gaming business in the UK and Ireland by 2010. On 14 May 2010, Paddy Power acquired a majority stake in Australian bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au, while they have also since merged with Betfair. Now known as “Flutter Entertainment”, On 2 October 2019, Flutter Entertainment announced that it would acquire “The Stars Group”, for US$6.95 billion, creating the world's largest online gambling company based on revenues.

The bookmaker made a name for itself originally by offering odds on controversial markets in order to gain publicity. For example, in November 2008, there were offered odds of 16/1 in the possibility that U.S. President Barack Obama 'would not finish' his first term (this was widely interpreted as his odds of assassination). Other controversial markets have been “the first species to be driven to extinction by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico”!

Unfortunately, more often than not people write reviews only when there are issues that still remain. When everything is running smoothly, they often do not write. We ask that you also fill in the positive field, so that the review can achieve its maximum objective. We are sure, that you will tell us the negatives, as well as the positives of these bookmakers.
