Betting options — normal

Matchbook has a wide range of sports, everything you would really need, but not quite as many of the more niche US and European Sports that may be covered at other bookmakers. The total list runs to 17 unique sporting categories.

The most coverage is given to the UK Premier League and European Champions League games, where you can expect to find a decent number of total goals markets and Asian Handicap markets but there is very little after that, no player markets, special events or even correct scores. There is slightly less in the lower leagues as well.  They do cover a decent range of the main Footballing countries much as the UK, Italy, Germany, Scotland, Spain but very little from further afield in Asia or Africa for example.

Horse Racing

UK Horse racing is well represented with every meeting covered 48 hours in advance although with little liquidity until a few hours before the off. There is no coverage of International events though. The range of bets you can place on the race is limited to the win market or the place market.

Other sports all have different levels of coverage and whilst it is always adequate, there is nowhere that Matchbook are specialists and you will find a bet here that you can not find somewhere else. They are a bit of a “Jack of All Trades and Master of None”.

One plus they do have though is the ability to place accumulator bets even though they are an exchange. It is not available for all bets but Acca bet selections will be available on the following markets, Match Odds, Moneyline, Total and Single Handicap Markets. Sports, where acca selections will be allowed, are Basketball, Baseball, Darts Football, Ice Hockey, Rugby, NFL, Tennis and you can place between 2 and 10 back selections to make up your acca. There is no commission payable on any Matchbook accas.

Live — normal

Live betting is available at Matchbook, but disappointingly there is no live streaming on offer. If you don’t have another means of watching the action this can be pretty frustrating! Other bookmakers do have at least a minimal presence here and hopefully, Matchbook will join them soon.  The markets available are similar to the pre-match options but unfortunately, liquidity can be low and difficult to get your bet on at the odds you want. The one plus side is you can put your bets in and wait for them to be matched, on both sides of the spread if you want, in effect becoming a market maker yourself.

About the bookmaker

Matchbook was established in 2004 and over 15 years in business they have established a huge customer base across the world. They are one of the top 3 betting exchanges alongside Betfair and Smarkets but with a unique commission model. They are based and licensed in Alderney although they began in America. In February of 2011, the company was acquired by UK investors. Upon the acquisition, Matchbook immediately withdrew from the US market, beginning their international expansion, while in 2012 they began expanding into Asia and Europe as well.

They are growing their brand through sponsorships and act as a sponsor to the English Championship side Brentford, while they have been the main sponsors to events, such as Qatar Goodwood Festival and other Horse races for several years.
